What? Volunteers help toddlers prepare to enter pre-K and/or Kindergarten. (A once per week commitment is required.)
When? Monday - Thursday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Why? Attending full-day school is a big transition! With a focus on socio-emotional skills, routines, table-time, and more, BELLA helps toddlers get ready to love school and succeed in the classroom.
What? Mentors and mentees meet weekly in a group setting to build relationships, navigate life, and have fun together!
When? Please contact Staff@REPMemphis.org for more details on becoming a Kupanda mentor. (Please note, a previous volunteer history is required.)
Why? Building a new life in an unfamiliar country is a daunting task. Youth thrive when they have caring and supportive mentors.
What? Summers at REP mean lots of learning and plenty of fun!
When? Monday - Thursday in June and July.
Why? Summer break is a great time to focus on skills that are important for academic and life success. Students give input into the activities, topics, and creative endeavors they want to explore. No summer learning loss here!
What? Volunteers instruct and assist in one of three program areas: 1) English language learning (ESOL); 2) digital literacy; and 3) citizenship preparedness. (A once-per-week commitment is required. Lesson plans and materials are provided.)
When? Monday - Thursday from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. Monday - Thursday evening from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Why? English language competency, computer skills, and citizenship knowledge are crucial to successful cultural integration. Adults are eager to learn English and use it in their daily lives, whether on the job or at their children's schools.
What? Make students feel welcomed and supported as they complete their homework and develop literacy, math, and social and emotional skills. Volunteers may also become STARS literacy coaches!
When? Monday - Thursday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Why? Newcomer students are eager to learn English and excel in the classroom. Providing one-on-one support helps them become and remain active, engaged students.
What? Volunteers nurture little ones while their parents learn English, practice computer skills, and prepare for the citizenship exam.
When? Monday – Thursday from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and again from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.
Why? Free nursery care helps parents who want to learn valuable skills in REP’s adult education programs. A nurturing and enriching environment helps stimulate infant growth and ease the burden of separation anxiety.
What? Encourage and equip middle and high school students to succeed in school and prepare for bright futures by helping them master learning objectives and building academic and social and emotional skills.
When? Monday – Thursday from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Why? Refugee students are placed in grades according to their age, not skill level. They are eager to catch up to their peers, excel in the classroom, and feel confident about their futures.
What? Build lasting bonds and promote a love of learning with the awesome kids of BCA! Help out with homework, build academic and life skills, and have some fun together.
When? Monday – Thursday from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Why? There is more to learn than can fit in a typical school day. Allow the students of BCA to brighten your day while you support them in growing as students and young people.
